Report Preparation, Peer Review, and Expert Consultation
Technical Reports and Journal Manuscripts. The current staff of TRJ Environmental have prepared over 150 technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers relating to exposure assessment, air pollution, and data analysis. A list of selected documents can be found in the Publications section of this website.
Peer Review. Ted Johnson has served as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology and the Journal of the Air and Waste Management Association. Under a contract with EPA’s National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory, he performed an independent peer review of the three documents summarizing the application of the HAPEM4 exposure model to toxic emissions from motor vehicles. Ted Johnson currently serves as a paid peer reviewer of technical reports prepared by Synergetics Limited.
Expert Panels. Ted Johnson served as a member of the Technical Implementation Panel (TIP) for Exposure Assessment sponsored by the American Chemistry Council. He also served as a member of the Panel on Dermal Exposure sponsored by the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI). In addition, Ted Johnson served as a panel member and provided expert judgement for the Subjective Judgment Project conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health. He recently served on four expert panels created by Toxicological Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA).
EPA Criteria Documents. Ted Johnson was the principal author of the exposure assessment section in the USEPA criteria document for carbon monoxide.
Risk Communication for Superfund Sites. Jill Mozier participated in both the design and field work during the remedial investigation (RI) phase of a large Superfund site. Part of the RI involved contacting all the nearby residents with potentially-contaminated wells, explaining to the residents their risk of exposure via drinking water contamination, and allaying their fears, if possible. Ms. Mozier also co-authored two documents regarding risk characterization. "Risk and Liability - the U.S. Experience in the Cleanup of Contaminated Sites" was presented at a European environmental conference. "Risk Assessment in the Remediation of Hazardous Waste Sites - A Case Study in the Use of Monte Carlo Techniques" was published in the Handbook of Bioremediation (Trantolo and Wise, eds., Marcel Dekker, Publishers, 1992).
Technical Assistance for Stake Holders. Ted Johnson has provided technical assistance in legal and regulatory proceedings concerned with benzene emissions from bulk storage facilities, mercury concentrations in fish, and regulatory compliance issues of facilities emitting mercury.
